I mostly use Multiply and Overlay, but I also like using glow sometimes
The multiply is my favourite

I was just agonizing over how best to use blend modes for shading earlier. The overlay/render one definitely looks the best, though I gotta ask, what exactly do you mean by render?

It means I merged all the colors and drew over it to make the edges look proper and such

ah so you would paint over the base color with an overlay, merge then do it again with a new one? Wash, rinse, repeat until it looked how you wanted?

Well basically, I start with a grey scale drawing, i use overlay to color it on a separate layer, merg on the same layer and use eye dropper to get colors from then on

Paint Tool SAI, however the techniques carry over to Photoshop as well as far as coloring goes. Brushes I'm not sure. I hope to make a tutorial in the future but I'm not sure I can promise that
